But why didn't you put Astahost on your list?

Astahost does not really work like google. At astahost you ask a question, and somebody answers.
At google, you ask a question and you are redirected to a page with the answer.
I don't really like the Astahost search engine, very often I use it in order to retrieve a page I liked (for instance the post concerning the ssh templates) and the Astahost search result is "sorry".
Of course, one way would be to ask the question again, but I'm sure the answer would be "use the search button" !

I love Wikipedia and Google. They're pretty much the only sites that I need for most research. I'll sometimes use specialized sites - WebMD comes to mind - but only for the minority of the stuff I need to find out more about.

But why didn't you put Astahost on your list? *grins* Maybe because we all obviously already know about it? Hehe.

Wow thats a very intresting list, thanks for the info!
I'v never heard of most of the sites above but i'll go check some of them out..

Even though this Top-10 list has some very useful sites, I decided to include my own Top-10 list. Honestly, this is the first time I think about making a list, and it showed me how much I depend on certain sites for managing my online life :D.

So here goes:

1. Download.com
My number One source for new software and updates.

2. Internet Infidels Discussion Board
A very active forum discussing a wide range of subjects about athiesm, generally philosophy, and intellictual matters in general.

3. Alternate Reality Gaming Network
A very interesting genre of games.

4. Amazon.com
DUH!

5. DevianART
An indispensible site for anyone even remotely dealing with graphics.

6. Internet Movie DataBase
A second home for movie buffs.

7. Google.com Search Engine
What I think is the perfect Search Engine.

8. World Wide Web Consortium
Where the Internet is really made.

9. Anne Rice's Official Website
The Queen of Goth and Horror literature.

10. Bored.com
A place to chill out and relax when you have nothing better to do.

But of course, this list is constantly changing. I might refresh it from time to time :P.

www.orbitfiles.com

Thanks a lot for the info ! You can upload files, donwload files, share files with friends, it's really great !
If you want to share a whole folder with a friend, you click "share", and the server sends your friend a mail with a link to a dynamically created page from where he can download each file. The server is also able to zip a whole folder.
And, last but not least, unlike astahost, it allows you really big files : 30 megs per file !
Thanks again for that info.
Regards
Yordan

Yeah I'd agree with Celt with deviantart. Gotta love it.

I use mySpace a lot so that'd be up there too.

Oh and fat-pie.com - The best flash animations ever.

For those interested in tech:
Slashdot - Just general tech stories, updated daily
Digg - If you've ever been on ShoutWire you'll know how the system here works. Users "digg" the stories and the more diggs a story gets the more popular it becomes. Sometimes the most popular Digg stories get a mention on the Diggnation podcast which is also worth viewing

My personal favorites:
DeviantArt - nice wallpapers, art, photography. Very nice

And ofcourse:
Wikipedia
NewEgg
Break.com - if you bored and feel like watching videos
ThatVideoSite.com - same thing as above, if you dont mind the ads lol

I don't think "Google Maps" is a "Must-Know" site. It isn't very good.
Weathernetwork is good, but only for north america...
http://www.newegg.com and http://www.ncix.com/ maybe good sites. But only if you are interested in.
The same thing for the online auction sites: If you like it, they may be good. If you don't like online auctions of corse not!
The most tools of http://www.bravenet.com/ can you have better at msn.com without extreme ads. You may like it, okay but since this is only money making I don't call it "cool".
http://www.penny-arcade.com/ is a freaky site too...

All in all I think EVERYBODY has its OWN Top List. because everybody like (or is interested) in other things.
Greets,
Matti-Koopa
