Ah the good old days of dot.tk and freedomain.co.nr lol. Here's the thing about these sites. They're pretty good for under 18 year old kids who are trying to get a domain, but don't have a credit card. I remember when I was under 18, I had a dot.tk. Preferred it over the co.nr, because it felt like more of a domain lol. However, if you are serious about your website (and search engine optimization), most people eventually find a way to get a REAL domain name (astahost and knolwedgesutra are great places to do just that. )
The reason the Search engine optimization part is crucial, is because this is who search engines rank you domains (which is REALLY important... a lot of traffic comes from these search engines, obviously.) Sites like dot.tk cloak your your domain, which in lamen terms, is not good for SEO! (I heard that now dot.tk allows full DNS.. so that may help a bit.) However, to be on the same side, I would just go with a traditional .com/.net/.org.. even a .info isn't half bad. Just my opinion lol.
Me too I don't like dot.tk cause there's a lot of happenings on my website sometimes.
They also deactivate my account without any reason .huh!

Today, in 2012, the best is http://www.smartdots.com. They have path forwarding, email forwarding and more. Better then .TK, better then co.cc because Google SEO doesn't except co.cc and better then co.nr becuse you need the dumb banner or they'll BAN you. Haha ban you. BANner.
Wow, do .tk domains still exist ? Last time I remember seeing a .tk domains was like 8 years ago. These domains were a real plague 10 years ago, they were mostly full of viruses, adware, spyware ... and any sort of malware you can possibly imagine.
And don't be fooled, there is no such thing as free domain names. Go check out the source code of your webpage once it's on a .tk domain. I'm pretty sure there's some nifty javascript added to it . If not, there's probably another catch.
I like www.co.cc the most because you can redirect to your site and you can either have it do a redirect to your exact domain, or have it keep the mydomain.cc. I noticed I get traffic from co.cc, either through their site, or through search engines.
Another thing is basically.. if i wanted to create a subdomain on my website for someone else, and I didn't want people to know that they were coming to my site, than I could just give them a link to that domain.
For example...
www.mydomain.com
Person's subsection is:
myfriendsarea.mydomain.com
The domain I give people:
myfriendsarea.co.cc
What people will see:
myfriendsareas.co.cc
And then through .htaccess you can just have all your links look like they are actually on that domain. So then your friend can get a free fake domain and be hosted on your site.
This could also be a service anyone could offer.. and charge a few bucks a month for it.
I tried dot.tk but it didn't seem to work for me.

.tk is greatDot.tk
I don't know how recently any of you have used .Tk but it's great now. I signed up for an account and I was even able to adjust their DNS zone records to point to my DNS servers. I also like how you don't have to use .Tk's name servers. I have yet to see any ads and I am even a part of their ambassador program (bit of a ponzi scheme but good nonetheless).I have three domains pointing at my servers: michaelwashere.Tk maldridge.Co.Cc and maldridge.Veeserve.ComOf the three .Tk is the fastest followed by the co.Cc last is the one that actually goes with the server (maldridge.Veeserve.Com)
