You can check if it works, but if you have no precious data, and if all your drivers are available, I would rather do a fresh install just to be sure to start from a very clean state.


i Agree... reason for upgrading my CPU - to run VMware 8... i think i would just do a fresh Installation...

Update: Grabbed a Core 2 Duo 6400 instead... I've just re-installed Windows XP... would XP be ok just with a CPU swap? or should it be better if i just do a Fresh Installation Again after i install the Core 2 Duo?

I'm going to hunt around for a good passive CPU cooler as well... so use to using laptop now decided to make my PC just as silent...

now I've decided to upgrade my CPU from the current P4 540 HT 3.2GHz... so i'm wondering on you guys opinion between these two CPUs:

Core 2 Duo E4400 or Pentium D 930

my Mainboard is an ASUS P5L-VM1394
