I know that BeOS is not in development, but if it was, they could do some touch ups.
Try being swarmed by BeOS fanatics and you know what I mean. (SkyOS programmers)

BeOS is no longer in development, smart one. Haiku is currently being developed, a replacement for BeOS, but they are not releasing anything until Haiku is completely compatible with BeOS. But as far as MEDIA goes, BeOS in its current state is superior to Linux. BeOS is the Media OS, and that being the strong focus. Now, that is not the goal of Linux, so this is by no means a fair comparison. Do a bit more research next time.

Linux IMO is better than BeOS. The interface looks like it needs a touch up and the kernel needs to be updated. The 2.6.12+ kernels can take more stress than BeOS at least...

Really, BeOS is a lot better with media...I've really never seen anything run as smoothly under lots of stress as BeOS. But, Linux is quite nice...I myself still prefer BSD, though. Anyone here ever manage to get their hands on a BeBox?

Another very cool and little known fact. BeOS makes a beast of a little file server. You can store/manipulate (very limited) files from just about any OS. Mac, linux, Win.. If you get a chance, try networking it and playing around. It snatches things nicely.

No, BeOS is BeOS. Not Windows. Most programs you would want to use exists, but you have to find alternatives, like using VLC instead of say, Windows Media Player.

Oh,43M size.So I can try install it with VMmare.ThxDoes it have compatability for general windows programs used today? Many people are used to using files which arent compatable on other OS's and therefore never try anything else. It is also a lack of advertising, I had never heard of it till i saw this topic. I see it is free and only about 43MB, but i dont really see what file from http://www.bebits.com/app/2680 to download :S

Hi,
i think BeOS is a nice, but very tiny OS. It's perfect for older persons, they don't need or don't want care about something like a Multi-User Systems and so on. I have some customers who just want to stay in touch with children via email or internet. Here was it the easiest way to install BeOS in a simple Installation Process on a verry slow Computer to reach the best and a secure result.
