thanks Q, this looks like a good option - but i'd probably still have to backup just incase :)

That's right, backup first, just in case.

I expanded my C drive from 10GB to 60GB or 40GB without rebooting using EASEUS Partition Master 7.0.1 Home Edition some time ago and nothing bad happened, but I fallowed a tutorial from their site, it's really easy to use and Home Edition is free. Now I think it has a newer version.

Before doing these changes, you need to check your disk for errors and defragment to 0% fragmentation for everything to move safely.

You can download it from: http://www.partition...om/personal.htm

The c: disk most probably cannot shrink/expand itself, of course you can try to do it from the Microsoft Windows disk manager, try left-click on the c: partition and choose "resize".
I prefer using gparted. It's a free and very efficient partitionning tool. You get the livecd/liveusb version here :
http://gparted.sourc...net/livecd.php/
You boot on the gparted media, and you have a graphic menu where you click on a partition and you can drag/drop it's boundaries or directly type the desired partition size.
Simply, before starting, remember the windows partitions names and sizes, your c: disk will probably be identified as "sd3" on the graphic gparted display!
I just used it to resize my c: partition yesterday, it worked like a charm!

Is it possible to extend my C partition just by using one of those Partitioning programs from Windows?

I think i've done this before where i merged two partitions or shrink one while expanding another...

can this be done on the C (System) drive? or does it require a bootable media with some program tool for the task?
