Atomic0, he doesn't even have enough RAM to even launch the Windows Vista installer. He simply needs more RAM.

You can of course run the computer under the minimum specification for Microsoft Windows Vista, but it will be very slow and sluggish experience. I suggest you buy a brand new computer as it will run Window Vista way faster than you current one. Also, I do not believe that upgrading you old computer (i.e. only replacing certain components) is a good idea as they are just too old to be useful. You should use a new computer that meets not only the minimum specifications but the recommended specifications for Windows Vista.

Per Microsoft the bare minimum specs for Vista are as follows.
Bare minimum in Microsoft parlance means that the PC will start, eventually. Realistically Vista will not run with the aforementioned specs.
* 1 GHz 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor
* 512 MB of system memory
* 20 GB hard drive with at least 15 GB of available space
* Support for DirectX 9 graphics and 32 MB of graphics memory
* DVD-ROM drive
* Audio Output
* Internet access (fees may apply)

No, it will NOT since your machine is way too old. You can get a computer under $500 that can run Vista now-a-days anyways.
You need a new machine.
