Just thought I would ask how many background services does everyone have running on their PC's. My laptop at work running Windows 2000 has 52 processes running and my home PC running XP has like 50. Whats the fewest processes you have ever seen running at one time and what's the most you have seen?

atm I have 30 processes running.
I don't know what the most is, but the smalles amount of processes I've seen running is something near 15 or so. |

Ok i got 49 now, but the most i've see is about 100, THe least is about 16 and Safe mode, don't remember. Sometimes i got 4 games running at one time with in 80 processes, along with 6 videos playing at one time and 20 I.E windows, all users logged on( about 3) and running videos too and mp3s playing also, then i would switch users and test my speed. Thats when i'm testing my system, amaze me that it still runs smooth, its custom built by me.

I got 54 to 55 processes running. Without starting some serious work that is. Firewall, virus scanner, one filter proxy, one rerouting proxy, PGP, Daemon Tools, the task manager, several instances of svchost.exe, arcotray, Outlook, Firefox (takes 100 megs RAM), IE and others. Sluggish is the word for my 2.8 GHz 1 GB RAM machine. But I can live with it. Currently there are 10 tabs on my taskbar, but I span the desktop over 2 monitors, so there is room for 3 more before they start stacking up

I don't watch my process that much but mine is usually around 44 processes most of the time. Every now and then, I cancel some things but most of the time I have around 40 processes running in the back ground.

At present I've got 30 BG processess on and that's because I've allowed a lot of unnecessary stuff to utalize automatic updates... however I suppose that if I were to stop all the automatic updates, stip my apache server and my SQL, screenprint ping software etc - stuff that loads on start, I suppose that I could bring down the number of processess down to between 15 and 18.. Untill I pugraded my RAM to 512 I'd never allow more than the most essential stuff to run.. now I guess I've started overlooking stuff.. however, if I'm running memory intensive programs like when I'm working with graphics.. then I turn off most non-essential processess..
