I would like my system to automatically log the user Administrator at power-up or at system reboot.
And I don't want to remove the Administrator user password. I knew how to do this with Windows 2000 : in the command prompt, type "control userpasswords" and you see the user admin pannel coming up, you uncheck "user must provide a password", the system asks you the default user passwords and then you don't need to give the password again at each boot. How do you perform this under Windows XP ? I would not like to directly edit the registry settings, I would like to have a more or less "standard" way to do this. Regards Yordan |

Try to install Tweak UI (Power Toys) from Microsoft itself!
Its available here! Here is the direct link to download the exe file! ( File size: 224 KB ) This PowerToy gives you access to system settings that are not exposed in the Windows XP default user interface, including mouse settings, Explorer settings, taskbar settings, and more. Version 2.10 requires Windows XP Service Pack 1 or Windows Server 2003. After installing it, go to: Logon -> Autologon option! select: logon automatically on system start up! and give username and click "set password" that will automatically load particular user profile! I'm posting one screenshot from my system here!

I don't want to provide shady or false information, so I'll write what I remember and leave it to other AstaHosters to confirm or negate this
In Windows XP, as long as you have more than one account, you can't have a default account. Whether you use the enhanced Welcome screen or the old-style login interface, you're going to have to choose which account to log into. And this happens whether any of those accounts has a password or not. The only way I know of to make a default login without providing a password is to have only one account active (I should think it'd be the Administrator account) and delete its password from Control Panel. Sorry if this doesn't suit your needs, and hopefully I'm mistaken and someone can provide you with a better tip EDIT: Well, obviously Niran did already Cheers. Thanks, Niran, the Tweak UI solution worked perfectly.
It was easy to install, easy to configure, it will be easy to unconfigure if necessary. And it's a Microsoft tool, so I can tell my collegues it's a safe way to do it. And it can be uninstalled if somebody don't trust it. That was exactly what I wanted, and the image was very useful because I first did not find the menu. Thanks a lot again. This can be done from the local security policy.
You can set In control panel --- > Administrative tools --- >Local security policy / Security Option look for interactive login: Do Not require CTRL+ALT+DEL) and set the attribute to ENABLE. Do not require to edit registry settings etc. Also you can do it the same way as you use to do in W2K You can turn on automatic logon without editing the registry in Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition and in Microsoft Windows XP Professional on a computer that is not joined to a domain. To do this, follow these steps: 1. Click Start, and then click Run. 2. In the Open box, type control userpasswords2, and then click OK. 3. Clear the "Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer" check box, and then click Apply. 4. In the Automatically Log On window, type the password in the Password box, and then retype the password in the Confirm Password box. 5. Click OK to close the Automatically Log On window, and then click OK to close the User Accounts window. |

yes, but I think the TweakUI method is easier, but the other way just doesn't require extra software
