HELP Administrator account deleted, need help loggin in to my laptop!!! WIN XP PRO Service Pack 2?
My friend was using my laptop and she says she has no idea what she did but she somehow deleted my account (the only account) so now i can only login as a guest andI have no access to my music pictures. programs, homework nothing, and I have a Toshiba Portege' laptop, it has no floppy disk or cd drive no internet connection, so i have no idea how to fix this, I tried the ctrl+alt+del trick but it will not work the default admin, has a password and i have no idea what it is, I got this laptop used out of a classified ad, and have no way of contacting the person who sold it to me, Someone has to be able to help me please, I am pretty good with command prompt and regedit but since i can only logon as "GUEST" nothing will work, almost everything i try says access denied ERROR 5. please please help.

I have tried safe mode, i have tried command prompts, and regedit but the guest account is not allowed to do anything i keep getting an access denied message, the laptop does NOT HAVE A DISK DRIVE so i am screwed there, the computer did have 2 admin accounts mine and the default "hidden" one, mine got deleted and did not have a password enabled, and i do not know the password for the default one this is xp PRO so it doesnot work if you try to logon with no password, whoever installed the os had to make a password during setup. if anyone knows some way they can really help me, please email me at loca_mami13@yahoo.com

how did ur friend actually manage to do that. From my experience you can't delete the Administrator account ... try logging in as "Administrator"

I HAVE ALREADY TRIED THAT, without a password, i tried guessing the password, it will not work.
she deleted the only account which was an administrator account, i found the DEFAULT ADMINISTRATOR account by using regedit but since i can only logon as a guest i could not do anything this is a used laptop so i have no way of finding out what that admin password is

Ouch!

This is why it worries me to put accounts on desktop computers and laptops etc.

This was one of the major turnoffs for me on putting password accounts on, but I decided to anyway, and I usually create another account if a freind or family member wants to use the computer.

I would highly recommend finding out how the hell the friend accidentally went on to Control Panel - User Accounts - Administrator - and accidentally deleted admin account.

And you shuld charge her or him at leats 50% of the charge having to ring up Microsoft or going to a LAptop fixing place.

These places can be expensive, £150.00 a fix sometimes.

If your laptop isn't worth that much, then you should consider purchasing a new laptop with part cost paid from your mates.

Hope that helps,,

A ll the best!!!!!!

Oh come on, you don't need to know the password to get on a Windows machine. Can't speak for Vista since i've not gotten around to trying it yet, but for XP, if you have physical access to the machine there are a hundred ways to bypass just about any of the security features for free. The only one i've not been able to find a working freeware utility for is EFS encryption. But that's beside the point.
For one, I don't think you can delete the administrator account, unless you've specified another administrator.
So go to any of these sites:
http://www.loginrecovery.com/
http://home.eunet.no/~pnordahl/ntpasswd/cd060213.zip
http://www.simtel.net/product.download.mirrors.php?id=80024
http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=103017
and you'll be able to change passwords for any accounts on the computer, without having to log in to windows.
These are just the simplest ways in...
Definitely though, at least charge him half of what it would have cost from a paid service.

It’s amazing how often then subject comes up. I have a tutorial at http://www.ycoderscookbook.com/ on how to reset your Windows password. Go to Tutorials and References and then click “How to Reset a NT Password using Knoppix-STD” at the bottom of the Tutorials page.

One bit of advice is that you can not delete the Windows built-in Administrator account but that doesn’t really matter because you don’t have the password. The above procedure will set the Administrator password to null (just hit enter at the login screen). As for your files I don’t know. It depends on how the account was deleted. If the account was removed by conventional means (through control panel) then there is an option to delete all user files. If your friend clicked yes then you may be in a world of hurt. If for some other reason Windows just done something funky and misplaced the account (seen this a few times) then you are still good with respect to your files. The files will be under C:\Documents and Settings\<name of your account>. One course of action is to remove the hard drive and hook it up to another machine. The second machine will see the hard drive and then simply copy your files off. I would most likely do this as the first step as you never really know what happened until you get access and who knows what Windows will do in the mean time.

If on the other hand your files were deleted you can find several data recovery software packages that may get your files back. The very important thing to remember here is do not add any other files to the system until the recovery is complete. Once the deleted data is overwritten then you really are out of luck.

Let me know if this helps or you need more assistance.

Yeah, since I run a netware server on my home network, I'd just create an account for them to use. I think that is much safer and they couldn't cause so much damage. BUT, what I would suggest if you allow people to use your computer is to purchase Deep Freeze from Faronics (http://www.faronics.com) and install it on your computer. When you're the only one using it, you can turn off Deep Freeze so you can install software & save files and settings to your drive. When you let someone else use your computer, turn it on and they can do ANYTHING to it (including some how delete the admin account). Once they're done, all you need to do is reboot and poof! everything is back to normal! Then you can turn off Deep Freeze.

Plus, a single license is only like 30 bucks. I love Deep Freeze to death. It's a great program EVERYONE should have! Or if you run a file server like Windows Server (I've read that some people do use it in their homes. I use it and Novell), you can just setup your computer the way you like, turn on deep freeze and save to the server and you're good!

Deep freeze will also protect you from Viruses and Spyware as well. If you get a virus, reboot and it's gone! My school uses deep freeze and it's cool. I like to go in sometimes when I have nothing better to do and delete as many registry keys as windows will allow me to the point where Windows doesn't work at all (to the point where it would require a reinstallation of Windows) and reboot.. Poof! Windows is back along with the registry. I highly recommend Deep Freeze! Even if you keep it off, it's always there.
