Hi,

Something very weird is happing to my G4 Tower lately because each time I restart it, something has changed....... for no reason. Eg: the wallpaper and screen savers disappeared; my Entourage email suddenly began reproducing new Main Identity pages at a rate of 1 per second and wouldn't allow me to access any of them; and all of my Dashboard items have been changed. blink.gif

Can anyone work-out what is going on and/or what the cure is?

Many thanks

Try creating a new user account and logging in with that. If that works, it's a user-level issue, just grab your files from the other user and trash it. If not, well, time to find your OS X disc smile.gif

Sounds like the user directory is out of whack. The problems you listed aren't system anomalies. Try ethergeek's suggestion. If it doesn't work, please feel free to reply!

Creating a new user account usually fixes these type of problems. This one had a problem with the dock crashing on start up...creating a new user account and trashing the old one worked.

here's what you should do.
-open up a new finder window
-navigate to wherever your applications are saved usually your applications folder....
-open up utilites and then navigate to disk utitility
-click on the disk that you're using and then press repair permissions then reboot and see what happens
-believe it or not this is a fix for alot of things surrounding macs

if that does'nt work
-have you installed any new apps lateley?
-any new .kexts?
-any intel only parts
-has someone else used your computer?
-did your computer come in contact with a magnet?
-is your computer used as a server or in a public place?
-are you prepared to format your hard drive if nessescary?
-did you get any new peripherals?
-hardware?
-any parts on the inside or outside of your computer?
-spill something on your computer?
-cause physical trauma to the computer itself eg. dropping , kicking , punching , throwing , hitting biting , throwing things at the case , making it fall , pushing it around etc.
-have you moved homes recently?
-do you have kids?

if you ask yourself those questions above i'm sure you'll find what you're looking for.
