The latest release that you can download is Gizmo Project 2.0.3.235(Nov 2006) at www.gizmoproject.com

Gizmo Project is either a free or cheap soft phone. Free for Gizmo Project to Gizmo Project callers or business callers and cheap ( 1 cents per minute) for Gizmo Call Out and 35 dollars per year for Gizmo Call In.

Call Out means you can call out to a regular telephone and Call In means a regular telephone can call in to you.
Call Out works like a pre-paid phone. I downloaded Gizmo Project onto my computer in May and paid the minimum of $10.00. (I believe I paid through Pay Pal) and they gave me 25 cents of free calling. I have used the minutes when I want to make long-distance calls and at 1 cent per minute the price cannot be beat.

It is now January 7th and I still have $4.64 on my phone. There are no extra charges to eat up your pre-paid money and so it is a joy to watch the pennies literally melt away at an unbelievable slow rate.

The Gizmo Project phone is always ready when I am, so reliability is a big plus.

So, if you are looking for a cheap reliable Internet phone or just a home phone for cheap long distance calling, Gizmo Project is the soft phone for you.

Yes, Gizmo phone is a great alternative to Skype. However, I'm still sticking to Skype tongue.gif

It's nice to see alternatives to Skype. Not that I have anything against Skype, healthy competition just usually means better services for us customers.

Personally, I've yet to get into the world of VoIP calling. Generally I don't call that much with my mobile (the one phone I have) and calls here are really cheap (we have one of the lowest rates in EU). VoIP just don't offer much savings for me so basically it'd be for fun...

from memory i read that the gizmo project had free 'call out' to landlines if both of the users (the caller and the callee) are connected with the gizmo project.

QUOTE
The new All Calls Free plan makes calls FREE between registered, active Gizmo Project users in 60 countries around the world. Get all your friends using Gizmo Project and you may never pay a phone bill again!
Make calls to mobile and landline
phones FREE!*

there is one limitation though, there is a limit on how many countries you can call, and even though the list is rather large, its still annoying if someone lives in one of those 'non supported' countries.

as long as your friends have put their landline number into their gizmo profile, you will be able to call them free!

for more information on the free calls, go to http://www.gizmoproject.com/learnmore-allcallsfree.html
