I'm not sure I quite understand what you are trying to do.
As far as I know, there are no free starter domains. What is it that you and your buddy are sending back and forth? You could always use an FTP program which would make it easier to store information on the server. Have you considered giving your website a shorter name? If you don't like typing out a long address, wouldn't you want to make it shorter for yourself and those who might go to it? Need more information so we can help you here. |

Hmm, as already mentioned, an FTP would probably the best solution in transfering files back and forth.
I don't fully understand why you'd need to fully type out the name of the web address each time if you both have access to the file list on the site? |

I assume that you are looking for a free webhosting service that can provide you with a short subdomain such as yourname.shortname.com. If that is what you are looking for then try htpp://www.1l.com. Your can't get any shorter than that! I hope that is helpfull

Two other good providers of sub-domains are uni.cc which gives you a sub-domain in the format - www.yourchoice.uni.cc & ne1.net which has a similar format offered http://yourchoice.ne1.net OR http://yourchoice.r8.org with or without www as a prefix.
Both these services are good, reliable and free. More importantly (for me at least) they don't put up any adverts whatsoever! |

I dont think free domains are avialable these days..i used to have a .com address for free but not any more.
Any ways ..i am using http://dyndns.org free redirecting service. It has other servcies on nominal rates ..but since i only need redirecting. If you want to cloack your address..if the redirect address should not appear in the address bar of your browser, a small popup will come..but i dont like popups so i have not used the cloack. Check out my website (which is hosted here at astahost) at http://hatim.webhop.info |

There is no such thing as a free domain no matter if it is a starter or whatever... your best bet is to either FTP or use a URL redirection service like uni.com, ne1.net, or my favorite: http://www.unonic.com

There used to be this site where is you refered so many people, you got a free domain name of your choice for a year. I was considering it. You sign up, then advertise with your special link, then once 50 people sign up through your special link, you get a free domain for a year. If you want to keep it though, you have to get 25 sign ups through your link within your year, and you get a year added on and so on. But if you ask me, 50 sign ups would take FOREVER, and it would probably just be easier to pay 7.99 a year for a domain name through godaddy. Thats the only thing I can think of that was free. If I were you I'd just go for a short sub-domain, but make sure it has good service.

It has free hosting service and a short domain. But the registaration is halted. |

Actually, there are free domains. But they're not "com" or "uk"
There's only one free domain provider, as far as I can tell. http://www.dot.tk/ They give you a free domain, of course they will give you an advertisement to . |
