Yeah i'm not going to bother, sounds too good to be true without some kind of catch. Otherwise what they are offering isn't too bad but i don't trust them. If it does turn out good it will still be wrecked anyway because of abusers.

Could be interesting for testing purposes.
Remember that you must have a backup of each database you manage. However, as long as you didn't test a backup, you don't know if your backup is valid. For instance, you must first backup your phpp forum database, then you must try to install this backup on a complete different server. Then, you know that your backup is valid, and if hastahost happens to experience a temporary problem, don't worry, you know how to re-install your whole site from scratch on your new astahost site. |

It says 99.9% uptime, but when I went there to check it out, their FAQ's weren't working, and neither were any of the top 20 webpages on the right. Maybe I just picked a bad time. I will be going back to check out the faqs, because it would be nice to have a back-up site, but it does sound to good to be true. But who knows, I like to check things out sometimes, at least it's free.

I love their way asking you to write down at least 250 words for describin your web site. You spend a lot of time doing that, and after that 404 error ! Fully nice! I love losing time that way
serverheaven.net works rather fine, they have a real cpanel with fantastico. Unfortunately, they also have giant forced ads, on top and at bottom of your site if you choose the free offer. This post has been edited by yordan: Sep 21 2006, 08:41 PM |

As usual you have a good idea Yordan;)
I liked the sound of that free place so I signed up for it..only thing I can see a problem for using this as a testing place is that it only allows 1 MySql dtabase to be written;(( I installed Drupal over there to have a play with it and wanted to make a shopping cart..then I kepy gtting a database limit exceeded error ;( I might use it to dump mp3 mixes on for a while till i probably get banned for using it as an ftp site |

QUOTE I might use it to dump mp3 mixes on for a while till i probably get banned for using it as an ftp site Useful for testing your backup procedures, I still say that. If you have a single database, then you test one thing after the other one. Downloading mp3's could be interesting if you have 500k mp3's, mine are slightly bigger than that. QUOTE till i probably get banned for using it as an ftp site No interest being banned because of mp3's. There are so many music sites allowing you hosting as many mp3 as you want. Use music sites for mp3, mysql sites for testing your backups, and use astahost as your main site. |
