QUOTE
This is for the people who dont know this trick

To Hide
=====

Make a folder (eg:c:\test)

run command prompt

Go to the folder location (eg: C:\)

type the following: attrib test +s +h

to view it
======

run command prompt

go to the location (C:\)

type the following: attrib test -s -h

Another Way:

just go to command prompt from start->run->command.
go to the desired folder, (not inside it).
type
ren (folder name) alt+(any combination of number) and press enter.
example:
c:\>ren shri alt+123456789 (press enter)

following will replace the folder with an unrecognised file type.

>this file cannot be opened,
>it cannot be deleted,
>it cannot be renamed, (in GUI mode)

to unlock it repeat the same process.

go to the folder (the unrecognised one)
type:
ren alt+(key combination) (folder name desired)

caution do not misplace the key combination used cause it is the only way to unlock the folder.

it works only under win9X

cause win 9x doesn't recognises special caharcters.

That's the old ALT+255 trick where it would embed a blankspace character in the ANSI DOS mode. It would show up as a folder with the _ underscore character in Windows Explorer. An old way to disallow access to a folder.

Arpit: You're absolutely correct in mentioning that this trick doesn'
t work in Win 2000 / Win NT / XP and 2003 versions.
