Not sure if this is exactly the right place for this question, but I am very eager to find some learning material or tutorials/articles in creating games using Flash 8 (which uses ActionScript I believe?).
The only thing I have really done in Flash so far is create a slide presentation with forward/back buttons that is a tutorial for Delphi that I put up on my site. I am looking for some basic flash game tutorials to get me started, so I can see some real code to play with, like uhh Snake, Tetris, a asteroids type game, all the sort of popular starter games. I have experience in Visual Basic 6 (games using BitBlt Win32 API function), Borland Delphi 7 (using unDelphiX for 2D DirectX games), HTML/XHTML/Javascript/VB Script/PHP/mySQL, C++ (for DLL's for my Delphi applications as well as basic Win32 GUI's) and a fair bit more.... so yeah, it's mainly the interface of Flash 8 that I have a real problem getting around (much like when I first started using Photoshop, which I still do have problems with remembering things as it has so many darn options and what not). Any help is greatly appreciated |

Try this page - it's not flash 8 releated but also works in earlier versions... and remember - if you don't need features from never players don't use them - there are still people that use older players (like all Linux users - they are forced to use 7.0) and they cannot or don't want to upgrade... stick with as low version as possible.
There is page about making tile based games and some links: http://www.tonypa.pri.ee/tbw/start.html |

Go to tutorialized. It is a great place to learn and it has categories for each kind of tutorial.
I think you should start out with a dress up game, since they are very simple. Then, start making games like snake or tetris. Before you make platform games, be sure to know all the keys number because if you dont know that, you are never going to get close. Also, newgrounds.com is a great site. They have a few tutorials and on the forums people will post tuts sometimes. I have seen a platform script generator and I have seen tuts on how to make snake. |

Key numbers? do you mean like RETURN is 34? (If I remember right).
In Delphi on KeyPress I just popped up a message showing it's value |

I have been to over 100 flash tutorial websites. The one I like the best is: http://www.kirupa.com/index.html
You can download source files for some basic games there. |

A really great site that can help your learning of actionscript would be Newgrounds.com
Yes, they may look like a flash portal, but they have a forum wherein lots of users help others with their problems. Watch out for the flamers though, they pop out suddenly. |

164 tutorials to be exact by the way, start learning right from actionscript 3.0. 2.0 might be easier at first, but later on when you want to make a move to 3.0, it will be very hard. 2.0 and 3.0 are very different from each other |
