Ummm... try contacting Microsoft Support for this issue as it is a person-to-person issue. As far as I know, this problem is rare and I never encountered it.

Almost sounds like a memory issue, what I recommend is to replace your RAM or add more to it and see if that will help from your computer from hanging. Then if that doesn't work it could be either your motherboard or processor that could be hanging up the installation.

It could also be a hard drive problem but in any case I agree that is it rare. If you didn’t know, Service Pack 3 is out now and you might want to try upgrading straight to SP3. According to the SP3 website (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=68c48dad-bc34-40be-8d85-6bb4f56f5110&displaylang=en), Service Pack 2 is not a requirement.

The problem with WindowsXP is that automaticaly reboots when it crashes, instead of showing the blue screen of death (BSOD) which usualy contains some usefull information about why it crashed. You can easily change this behaviour:
Right-click "this computer" > "Properties"
Go to the "Advanced" tab
Go to the "restart and repair settings" (might have a slightly different name, but I'm not using an english version of XP so I'm just guessing what the right translation might be smile.gif ).
Untick the "automaticaly restart the computer" checkbox

Next time windows crashes, you get a BSOD that has a code that looks like 0x0DE434DAA, write this down and search it on the internet.

The windows logbooks can provide you some usefull information too.
Right-click "this computer" > Manage
Under "event viewer" (or logs, or whatever they called it in english), go to the "System Log".
Don't be scared if you see tons of items, most of them are useless, see if there are any recent errors.

ps. upgrading to SP3 instead of SP2 isn't a bad idea either tongue.gif

Upgrade Windows Service Pack Issues

Running microsoft xp version 2002 with service pack 3 EVERY TIME I shut down windows I always receive the same exact message installing update 1 of 1. This same message repeats itself 4-6 times before the system finally shuts down. Seems odd that at EVERY shut down I receive the exact same message HELP
