I would go with age of empires 1 or 2 they are pretty old strategy as they came out in 1997 and 1998. Although many people still play them like me but when you try to play online most of the rooms are full which goes to show how popular they still are.

I enjoyed Age of Mythology, Age of Empires, and Empire Earth. All games have a special creativity and fun gameplay. Those have to be the best strategy games of all time. I prefer them over starcraft and red alert any day

Warcraft III and its expansion is a strategy game I believe, so that's my bet here. I would say Starcraft and it's expansion, but it's overdue on that now. Warcraft III seems to be the upgrade so that works much better. So fun playing the mod DOTA and having sorta like a World of Warcraft game but with less people and a normal WCIII view from top. A roleplaying game to say.

Well if you would want to go by best graphics, i would choose ground control (one or two), but for me, i cant seem to find any online games (in ground control one). GC1 is free so you can go to fileplanet and download it.
If you would like to go for the best gameplay. C&C Red alert is the way to go. Lots of online games and endless playtime with the singleplayer campaigns and skirmishes.

I reckon you can't beat good old 'Age of Empires'! It's great and is truly the ultimate strategy game. If you get bored of it then you play with a mate or online. It was the first strategy game I ever played and I've never stopped liking it.

I never got into Age of Empires 2 or Age of Empires 3 simply because Age of Empires 1 is the ultimate game that kicked off this whole genre pretty much.

Aaah cinthia! I had forgotten about those old city builder games! I wish they'd release a new version of one of them... I had played Zeus and Ceasar 2/3 and I loved them. They always did an excellent job of recreating the culture of the place (albeit to a limited technological level since the games are a handful of years old now) and had great pacing and everything. Good times were had with those games. Too bad they killed the series'

For me my all time fav RTS was probbaly Total Annihilation. Now most people played Star Craft and never heard of or never played much of TA but I prefered it. Just something about the balance of units and everything. Sure the storyline was almost nonexistent but at the time I just wanted a game to play online against my friends. And so it was done.

Getting past that I really loved WC3+expansion. Both were really well done, same with C&C Generals. Amazing graphics and gameplay. Both were awesome but I just never got into any other RTS as much as I was addicted to TA back in the day. Then again I don't play RTS's as much anymore so that probably is a major factor too.

Like someone said before it really depends on what kind of game you are looking for, from the description (old game) im gonna guess that you are looking for gameplay over graphics. For this I would direct you towards either classic; command and conquer: red alert 1 or 2, or any one of the age of empires series. Just get whichever time you like the idea of best.

I think the best strategy game is Age Of Empire series! I also like Rise Of Nations and Empire Earth !!!
