These here are some facts about pirated CD's and how to get them in "Hyderabad, India"(May NOT apply to other cities)
Software piracy is probably one of the industries worst nightmares....if my information is not wrong there are pretty stringent laws in some of the developed countries... But out here...well read on. The first and best place to find such places is the classifieds section of the newspaper where u can find atleast ten different ads everyday abt Rs 35/- Games, Rs. 50/- Software(Btw. 1$=Rs 50(approx)) These ads also generally include a list of softwares availabe which range from Adobe(Yes thats a software for them) to Macromedia(Thats a software too) The people who do this are generally not very high-tech and most of them dont know what the software is for!!! But the plus point is these work and these people replace it gladly if it doesnt. COST:- The cost of these software's is dirt cheap 3dsmax 7:Rs200 ($4) Photoshop 8 Rs.100 ($2) Corel Draw 12 Rs 70 DreamweaverMX 2004 Rs. 50 Maya 6.5 Unlimited Rs.50 Complete Age of empires Rs. 40 U can use this topic to discuss the state of piracy in your own countries. |

There is a place called "fort" in Bombay and a large number of Hawkers sit on the roadside and sell CD's.
Yes. they dont even know whats there on the CD but you will find almost anything from Microsoft Office Collection suite to Windows XP power CD ( which contains many versions of XP compiled in Single CD ). All the hawkers might ask you to show the CD cover or something. Some of the hawkers dont even know to read English.. So if you really want something.. then it would be difficult for you to get it just by telling him the name of the software. A good bargainer will get them below Rs. 40 which is less than 1 USD. There are all types of CDs from Software, Games, Porn, Music, Movies etc. Mind it, They have everything. Even those softwares which you might not find on some good p2p programs. They keep an album like thing which has photocopies of the CD cover. You select it and you get it. There are also other places like the local cybercafes who have around 40 computers in their store and they store all the softwares are CD images across all of their computers.. ( Consider 80GB x 40 = 2400 GB ) Then, If you want some software or game, you just name them and he will search the computers and write the image for you. The charges are around Rs.50 / CD. They usually charge according to the no. of CDs rather than they type of software. And then there are always friends .. and since CD writers are soo cheap in India, Everyone has one. So all of them usually share. A computer ( PIV ) will cost around $400 to $450 ( around Rs.18,000 to 19,000 ) CD-Writers cost around $34. So its no big deal to get a Writer :-) A PS2 game costs less than $2 here :-) This is available in all the shops ( stationary ). You might also say, Piracy flows in the blood of the entire IT industry in India! |

In Hong Kong, piracy is really easy. Just go on the streets and find a piracy shop, and it's not that hard to find, and walk in. They usually are just vacant shops with nothing in them, except racks on the walls. On these racks, there are many cds, some for ps2, xbox, pc, etc. Take what you want, and then put the money in one of the boxes near the door (well, they usually don't have doors, but you know what I mean). There should be a price list in the room saying something like 5cds for $20 (hong kong dollar). After you put the money in the box, you can leave the place. If you don't put the money in, however, watchout for the shopkeepers (Black market people) who might beat you up and kill your family. That's what I think they'd do, I haven't tried or heard from others who tried.
That way there's no transaction, and it won't be considered illegal. |

Here happens the same.
But they don't put the price based on software, but on cds the software takes. So you can get photoshop for about 2$ (1 cd) but you get Metal Gear 2 for 9$ (8 cds). |

Piracy is not as bad in Australia, but if you know where to look, you will find it.
Some of Australians main holiday desinations is very bad, ie Bali, 1 out of every 100 stores is not selling pirated copies of something. |
