I was searching this forum to find out if Astahost actually support Ruby. It remains vague to me.

I found Astahost from clickherefree.com when searching for webhosts featuring Ruby.

But on Astahost's own page of complete hosting feature, there is no mention of Ruby. Also, on free-webhosts.com there is no mention of Ruby under Astahost's description..

Q: Does Astahost support Ruby CGI programming? if so, what are the general specifications?

How about you try a Ruby CGI script(an easy one) to see if it works...

By the looks of things, he isn't hosted yet so he's asking before he gets an account (it would be a waste of time if he got a hosting account, just to find out that it didn't do what he wanted).

Perhaps you could try emailing or PMing the admins, or if you posted an example Ruby CGI script here I would be more that willing to try it on my account to see if it works. smile.gif

Enjoy your time here at AstaHost!

CODE
#!/usr/bin/ruby
# hello1.cgi

puts "content-type: text/html"
puts
puts "<html>"
puts "<body>"
puts "<h1>Hello Ruby!</h1>"
puts "</body>"
puts "</html>"

I got this Ruby hello world code from http://www.coolnamehere.com/geekery/ruby/web/cgi.html

It should work if /usr/bin/ruby is where Ruby CGI is located at.

Can you try this to see if it will run saxsux? Thanks in advance.

I couldn't find any /usr/bin/ruby file, but check where i've put it, public_html: http://runefantasy.astahost.com/ruby.cgi

It's still there, you can view it. I've got no idea what it says... and I have no idea what it means tongue.gif

I just checked through the shell - and astahost indeed does not have ruby installed. So am sorry to say, your cgi code won't execute. It's got php and perl though - if that serves your purpose.

Ok, thanks for all your time.

It's hard to find a good free webhost which supports Ruby.

Well,

looking at Some Webpage it is at least suggested that Ruby is one of the supported scripting languages here.

I don't know who's beeen suggesting though...

I think the server should support Ruby on Rails since the famous blogging system Typo runs on it. I think we should open the server for Ruby since CGI is already supported...

Yeah. Currently ruby is getting more common and I personally like to try out Ruby as what others stated that its pretty efficient in the performance. I guess a lot of us in Astahost would like to try that out too. wink.gif
